FIA will not be swayed by breakaway talks

The FIA has said it will not be moved by what it calls 'deluded' attempts to weaken its authority in Formula One, on a weekend when Bernie Ecclestone has prompted speculation about a breakaway championship.
With formal talks to frame a new Concorde Agreement getting underway in the Montreal paddock, there have been widespread reports Ecclestone and the teams could go as far as launching a breakaway championship if they cannot get the FIA on board a new deal to secure F1's future.
But although Ecclestone's attempts to get support for the idea of a breakaway appear to have fallen on deaf ears, with many teams saying they are not interested in the concept, it has not stopped the speculation continuing.
Ecclestone was quoted in the Sunday Express as saying: "I'm certainly not advocating a breakaway but in theory they could do their own deal for TV, whatever."
But despite the posturing about a breakaway, the FIA has adopted a hard-line approach to its position on the Concorde Agreement - and criticised those that it feels are trying to force it to back down.
"We have nothing to add to the letter the FIA President sent to the member clubs on May 16," said an FIA spokesman. "The issues he raised then could not have been clearer.
"There are those who have sought to destabilise the FIA and undermine its independent authority for their own gain. The overwhelming support the President received from the General Assembly confirms that our membership will not allow this to happen. Anyone who thinks that this is not the case is deluded."
The teams and Ecclestone are keen for the FIA to come on board a Concorde Agreement that unifies them all - but it will have to be a deal that does not weaken the FIA's position and also ensures financial stability for the teams.
Honda Racing team principal Ross Brawn said that speculation of a breakaway was unfortunate, because of the damage the rumours could cause the sport.
"It is a shame if these things get discussed," he said. "I don't think anyone wants it (a breakaway). It didn't happen before and it is unlikely now. I think everyone wants to try and find a solution with Bernie and the FIA."
BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said that it would take a few weeks for matters to settle down in working out where the battle lines between Ecclestone and the FIA were drawn.
"Certainly there is a power struggle going on and it will carry on for a few more weeks before we see what direction it takes," he said.
When asked if he felt a breakaway threat was serious, he said: "I wouldn't see it as a first option."

Bernie Ecclestone planira pokretanje nove trkaće serije umjesto F1
Prema najnovijim informacijama koje stižu iz Montreala, Bernie Ecclestone i deset momčadi formule 1 ozbiljno evaluiraju opciju pokretanja nove trkaće serije. Razlog? Max Mosley, koji je već odavno prekršio svaku mjeru dobrog ukusa.
Mosleyevu ostavku do sada su službeno zatražili neki od proizvođača uključenih u F1, veliki automobilski klubovi i Bernie Ecclestone. Navijači ga već duže vrijeme ne podnose, a prekipjelo je i sponzorima koji u formulu 1 injektiraju ogromne novčane svote. Ecclestone je sada navodno utvrdio da je na Mosleya nemoguće utjecati i da je došlo vrijeme da se formula 1 makne od njega, s obzirom da on već ne želi od nje.
Razvod formule 1 i FIA-e bio bi povijesni iskorak jer su svi takvi dosadašnji pokušaji i prijetnje padali u vodu. No, razlika je ovog puta u tome što Bernie Ecclestone predvodi pobunjenike. I sama vijest da ozbiljno razmatra opciju pokretanja nove serije dovoljno govori pod kolikim se pritiskom sponzora našao.
Ako se ovo dogodi, nova serija bi dobila i novo ime i bila bi ustrojena pod novom organizacijskom strukturom. Jedan od visokopozicioniranih dužnosnika jedne od momčadi je rekao da formulu 1 ništa ne može zaustaviti da ustanovu novu strukturu. "Proizvođači osiguravaju bolide, vozače i sponzore. Bernie ima ugovore sa stazama i televizijskim kućama. Max je samo sudac, a FIA puše u zviždaljku."
Ecclestone je još u Španjolskoj predložio inicijativu šefovima momčadi, sugerirajući da potpišu dokument kojim će zatražiti Mosleyevu smjenu. Tri crne ovce su bili Ferrari, Williams i Toro Rosso, koji nisu željeli dati svoje potpise. No, prema posljednjim informacijama, sada su svi voljni surađivati i podržati Ecclestonea.
Pa čak i Ferrari, koji je do sada bio vrlo tih po pitanju Mosleyevog seks skandala. Čini se da je to bilo zato što su se nadali da će Mosley odraditi prijelazni rok i u studenom se povući, a u međuvremenu pripremiti teren za dolazak Jeana Todta na mjesto predsjednika FIA-e. Ali, sa svakim novim danom se čini da Mosley uopće nema namjeru povući se s predsjedničkog mjesta, sve do smrtnog časa.
Ova bi se vijest mogla interpretirati i kao pokušaj zastrašivanja Mosleya, jer Ecclestone i momčadi do sada nisu pronašli drugih sredstava da pritisnu omraženog predsjednika. Ipak, relevantne informacije govore da su neke od momčadi spremne za pokretanje novog prvenstva, bez obzira reagirao predsjednik ili ne.
S obzirom da je Ecclestoneove poslovne kombinacije nemoguće pohvatati i tek tako rezonirati, mnogi još uvijek s nevjericom čitaju o kraju prijateljstva između njega i Mosleya. Upravo su ona dvojica formulu 1 pretvorila u globalni i unosni posao, a sada im je, u kaubojskom žargonu, grad postao premalen za obojicu.
Izgleda da je Berni krenuo u otvoreni rat sa Maksom, oko novog konkordskog sporazuma. Odrzan je sastanakizmedju njega i vodja timova i pretstavnika proizvodjaca gde se diskutovalo o odvajanju F1 od FIA u svetlu Mozlijevog odbijanja da napusti funkciju posle skandala.
