Citat: Alfred Leopold Isidor Kubin (April 10, 1877 - August 20, 1959), better known as Alfred Kubin, was a multitalented artist with interests varying in the areas of illustration, painting, and writing. He was a lead 'Expressionist,' born in Bohemia, Austria. Living much up to the reputation of the 'Bohemian' artists, Kubin carved a niche for himself through his path breaking body of work consistently featuring the concept of death. Although he occasionally painted in oil, his best-known works are his ink sketches, watercolor paintings, and lithographs, the number of which runs into thousands. His most acclaimed work was created in the year 1925, with the name "Totentanz (Dance of the Dead)." He came up with a sequel of "Totentanz," compiled in the form of a book titled "Ein Neuer Totentanz (A New Dance of the Dead)," in 1949.

Jeste Kubin, a crtež je nazvan jednostavno "Slikar" (Der Maler, The Painter). DreamingStar, lepa dopuna odgovora.
Citat:In Munich he first saw the graphic work of James Ensor, Goya, Max Klinger, Edvard Munch, Odilon Redon and Félicien Rops, finding Klinger’s work closest to his own aesthetic. He also read Arthur Schopenhauer’s pessimistic philosophy, which he found attractive, and befriended many artists, including the Elf Scharfrichter circle around Frank Wedekind.
. . .
After 1909 Kubin was a member of the Neue künstlervereinigung münchen and exhibited with its successor the Blaue Reiter in 1911, as well as contributing drawings to Der Blaue Reiter in 1912. Through this involvement he became a friend of Franz Marc and, also at this time, of Paul Klee. He continued to illustrate numerous books, including Dostoyevsky’s Die Doppelgänger (Munich, 1913) and E. T. A. Hoffmann’s Nachtstücke (Munich and Leipzig, 1913).
. . .
In 1915–16 he worked on a series of pen drawings published as Die Blätter mit dem Tod (Berlin, 1918-), which reflected the grim prevalence of death at the time. Kubin was also thrown into turmoil intellectually and, in a search for direction, read books by Friedrich Nietzsche, as well as briefly converting to Buddhism in 1916.
