Do I need a Registry Cleaner?

Registry Cleaners and System Tweaking Tools

Registry Cleaner FAQ (By Tim Fisher, About.com Guide)
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/registry-cleaner/a/registry-cleaner-faq.htm
Citat:"Do I need to run a registry cleaner on a regular basis?"
No.
Citat:"My favorite registry cleaner says it fixes LOTS of problems in the registry. Is that not true?"
Most registry cleaners "do" a lot "stuff" in the registry, but I'd argue that most of that "doing" is fixing problems that simply don't exist.
Citat:"OK, maybe registry cleaning is overrated. But what's wrong with running one every day/week/month/year, just in case?"
A few reasons come to mind:
Letting an automated tool remove registry keys, especially ones not really causing problems, is risky.
It's a waste of your time.
It's a waste of your computer's resources
Actually, I'd go beyond overrated and say unnecessary. Why would you want to do any sort of maintenance that's unnecessary?
Do I need a Windows Registry cleaner? (odgovor dosta popularnog sajta za pomoc computerhope.com)
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001077.htm
Citat:Registry cleaners are designed to help remove invalid references made in the Windows Registry pointing to a DLL, program, font, uninstalled program, or other system information that no longer exists on the computer. These references can be left behind when a program is not uninstalled properly, the uninstaller is poorly written, or the system has crashed in the past causing these invalid entries.
Although these utilities can make the Windows Registry clean, the overall potential benefits are greatly outweighed by the potential harm a they could cause. We suggest users do not install or use Windows Registry cleaners on their Windows computers.
Do you Still Believe in Registry Cleaners?
http://www.freemake.com/blog/do-you-still-believe-in-registry-cleaners/
Citat:Here are other factors why cleaners are no longer helpful:
1) Windows has a special utility which alerts you when there is little free space on your HDD, so that it influences the PC performance. The same utility cleans unnecessary files for you. So if you don’t receive such alerts, everything is OK with your PC storage.
2) Web browsers are getting faster and smarter with each update. Do you really believe that having cleared browser cache, you’ll make it run faster? No at all, it means that websites will load even longer, since you deleted the information about them from browser memory, so it will take more time to restore it.
3) It’s hard to figure out what information in Windows register is useful or useless. For example, by mistake you may delete some keys or components for a program which you removed from your system but decided to restore after some time. In this case you’ll get nothing but headache. There were even cases when users had to re-install Windows after cleaners work!
4) To really speed up a system, you must be a geek or an IT person at least, because only with the knowledge of Windows OS inside, you’ll be able to fine-tune it. The least you can do is to minimize Windows startup time, having disabled useless services which start together with the system.
