Takodje mislim i ubedjen sam u to, ali takodje mislim da ako je dobar monitor i ne neka ratoborna igra i ako se igra u granicama normale da nema straha Wink ipak/.....

Washington - Fresh debate raged on Monday over violence in video games after new research concluded that children who blast away for hours are more aggressive, clash with their elders and can lag behind at school.

Children who chop and slash through karate games, for instance, apparently tend to try out moves on friends, while teachers have noticed that pupils who play violent games are more aggressive than those who don't, the research found.

The research is fuelling a campaign by family values groups and latched on to by some American politicians against sex and violence in video games, which recently forced makers of one release, the famed Grand Theft Auto to halt production.

Young gamers "tend to imitate the moves that they just 'acted out' in the game they played", said Kevin Kieffer, of Saint Leo University in Florida, co-author of an assessment of 20 years of research into the issue.

One probe found that people who play video games for a scant 10 minutes detect aggressive traits and actions in their own characters shortly after hitting the off button.

Another study, of more than 600 pupils aged 13 and 14, found teachers noticed that those who played violent games were more aggressive, likely to have more arguments with authority figures and more prone to fights with other students.

Researchers, who presented their findings at the Convention of the American Psychological Association which wrapped up at the weekend in Washington, also found that young boys tend to spend more hours wasting away in front of the game console than girls.

That may be partly explained by the fact that girls in video games are often portrayed in submissive situations, the researchers said.

Parents, educational authorities and family values groups have long warned on the impact of violent video games on young peoples' personalities.

"Here's a question for Americas parents; do you want your daughter going out with a teenage boy who spends two or three hours playing Punisher every night? I don't think so," Bill Maier, a psychologist with the conservative Focus on the Family group, said in a statement on Monday.

The Punisher is described by its makers as the story of a soul-scarred vigilante who visits 101 kinds of "unique death" on the "scum" of the criminal underworld.

Some relatives of victims blamed the massacre of 12 students and a teacher at school in Columbine, Colorado, in 1999 on violent video games played by the two young gunmen.

More recently, RockStar Games bowed to fierce political pressure and stopped production of its Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas game.

Regulators slapped an zabranjenos-only label on the release because a software modification called "Hot Coffee", available on the Internet but which was not made by RockStar, allowed players to view graphic levels of sex, violence and drug use.

Grand Theft Auto features graphic designs that allow users to play the parts of street gang characters carrying out robberies, carjackings, shootings and other nefarious deeds to earn points. - Sapa-AFP
