This topic is designed as readers club of literature that is written in English language. It's goal is to draw in all those that are reading literature in English, and to provide reviews of it. This is a place where reviews are meant to be shared, to present criticism and praise, whether on the work itself, on the writer or the mannerism in which the work has been written. Also it can be used to provide assistance with interpretation of certain words and/or phrases. Some interesting phrases and excerpts, as well as idioms, proverbs and sayings are desirable to be quoted and discussed.
It is desirable for the reviews to be in English, but it is not obligatory, Serbian can be used as well. Communication is not limited to English language, Serbian is also allowed.

Well I guess nobody is reading books
Anyway, I've just finished reading The Blinding Knife, it is the second book in The Lightbringer series, by Brent Weeks.
Like his last series (The Night Angel) it is a fascinating read. Personally, I consider him to be one of the best writers in the fantasy genre.
I am not going to get into the specifics of this book, as not to mar the impression of future readers. It would suffice to say that story is consistent and character building very well thought out. Sentences are constructed in such a manner as to enrich one's vocabulary, but overall the text is not clogged with so much unorthodox phrases that one would need a dictionary or serious research in order to understand a simple sentence.
So, bottom line would be that this is a must read if you are into a fantasy genre. Both of the books are 600+ pages, but I was left with a feeling that they are too short (that's how good they are), so all that is left for me now is to await the third book in the series

The Call of the Wild by Jack London
The last book that I have read was The Call of the Wild by Jack London. As a child, I read it in
Serbian, and quite recently I got the original, English version. Earlier the nicest thing about this
book for me was the string of adventure that was so appealing to a young mind, and now I
respect the great quality of London’s writing.
This book has sometimes been erroneously categorized as a children's novel, although like I sad
it has the action which would be more attractive to younger readers. Nevertheless, it is a
timeless classic suitable for all generations.
It has been satisfying to read it and exert the mind in order to understand something that had
been written over a century ago. It has phrases and words that describe things which nobody
uses any more. Also, the relationships between people, and people and animals are quite
different than they would be expected nowadays In fact, I would expect that some of the younger
generations would find some things „disturbing“. But, the understanding the past is very useful
for knowing the real quality of our days in this world.
As for the story itself, it was drawn from London's firsthand experiences as a Klondike
adventurer. It relates the tale of a dog (Buck), who was caught in the harsh life of the Alaska Gold
Rush, and ultimately faces a choice between living in man's world and returning to nature.

OK, I've finally read "White Fang" by Jack London.
The main protagonist is a wolf-hybrid (wolfdog) called White Fang after he bit one of the Indians with its fang, as a puppy.
Author tried to present the mindset of a dog, how it interprets the world and human actions, beginning with its puppyhood and concluding with the process of domestication.
White Fang had a harsh life in the Indian camp, because the other dogs in the pack saw it as a wolf. It became cunning, savage, morose, solitary, and a fierce fighter, the enemy of his kind.
When Grey Beaver, his owner, sold him for a several bottles of whiskey, things got worse... He was tortured by Beauty Smith and prepared for dog fights. In that stage of his life, he was ferocious beast and knew just the horrors of the life, and the dark side of the mankind. He learned the laws Kill or be killed and Eat or be eaten.
I will not read this book again, because of that rather dark part of White Fang's life, although in the end he discovered the brighter side of mankind, and love.
He forever remained lone.

Well, I think that you're guessing wrong.
Game of Thrones- A Song of Ice and Fire
I know that this is a popular book. Especially because of the series that is broadcasted on TV. And I won't write about the plot, probably because the name itself makes the reader willing to enter the world of the Seven Kingdoms. And another reason is that everybody watched the series, so there is no use in writing the plot. What I like about this book is Martin's way of writing, I have to say that he is very creative and innovative in a way. Things you read in a book can't be compared with any other book. Also, he keeps readers' attention with enough details and the fact that always something happens. In one word this is a page turner book.

"The Dread Wyrm" third book in "The Traitor Son Cycle" series came out in october. There is supposed to be five books in total, and so far we have: "The Red Knight", "The Fell Sword" and this one. Miles Cameron somehow succeeded to incorporate XV century Europe knights, falling Byzantine empire, different faiths and beliefs, dragons, wyverns, boglins, sorcerers.... in to a great world and a great story. It might sound stupid or crazy to have all that in one book, but somehow it is not. Yes there is magic, sorcerers, dragons... but at the same time there is a really good presentation of the states in which you can recognize medieval France, England, Byzantine empire... Battles are epic, and you can see that writer is familiar how should real medieval army look like, be led, logistics, discipline, armor... which is not the case with many fantasy writers today. Plot is deep, with lot of important major and minor characters, and great characters development. Moral dilemmas, fears, questions of faith... And i can't say much more than this without spoilers. It's a great book and great series.
