Pilchard or Sardine?
* Pilchard is more boney, tend to be canned in sauces, like tomato, mustard...
* Sardines in most of the world are oil or water packed, here in Canada we have ones flavoured with mustard, hot peppers, soya and ginger, in water and with oil. izvor
* The terms sardine and pilchard are not precise, and what is meant depends on the region.
* The United Kingdom's Sea Fish Industry Authority, for example, classifies sardines as young pilchards.
* One criterion suggests
- Sardines: fish shorter in length than 6 inches (15 cm) are sardines,
- Pilchards: larger than 15 cm izvor
