Nakon tri miliona prodatih 'zvanicnih' primeraka Battlefielda 1942 sirom sveta, bilo je krajnje vreme da Electronic Arts najavi nastavak. Battlefield 2 ima potpuno novi graficki engine, a okruzenje Drugog svetskog rata ustupilo je mesto savremenim okrsajima i naoruzanju. Grafika je fotorealisticna, a likovi vojnika su neverovatno detaljno uradjeni. Svaki komad opreme je individualno renderovan i pokrece se nezavisno od tele vojnika dok se on krece. Igrac moze da ubaci u igru sopstveni logo koji ce potom biti izvezen na uniformama vojnika (malo ukrali od Rainbow six-a) ili utisnut na vozilima. Mape su pretezno smestene u urbane i ruralne predele Bliskog i Dalekog istoka.
