GParted is the Gnome Partition Editor application. Before attempting to use it, here is some basic background information.

A hard disk is usually subdivided into one or more partitions. These partitions are normally not re-sizable (making one smaller and the adjacent one larger). The purpose of GParted is to allow the individual to take a hard disk and change the partition organization therein, while preserving the partition contents.

GParted is an industrial-strength package for creating, destroying, resizing, moving, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganizing disk usage, copying data residing on hard disks and mirroring one partition with another (disk imaging).

GParted uses GNU libparted to detect and manipulate devices and partition tables.

Several (optional) file system tools provide support for file systems not included in libparted.
These optional packages will be detected at runtime and do not require a rebuild of GParted.

GParted is written in C++ and uses gtkmm for its Graphical User Interface (GUI). The general approach is to keep the Graphical User Interface as simple as possible. Every attempt was made to conform to the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.

GParted LiveCD

Dostupna je za preuzimanje nova stabilna verzija GParted LiveCD 0.8.0-5.
Zasnovana na Debianu prvenstveno namenjena za particionisanje hard diska.
Dolazi sa Linuks jezgrom verzije 2.6.38.

GParted Live 0.8.1-3

Najavljena je dostupnost izadanja GParted Live 0.8.1-3.

This release is based on the Debian 'Sid' repository as of May 24, 2011 (Linux kernel 2.6.38-5). The new GParted 0.8.1 further improves motherboard BIOS RAID support. GParted LiveCD 0.9.0-6

New in this release: the underlying GNU/Linux operating system is based on the Debian 'Sid' repository (as of 2011-07-23); new GParted 0.9.0; Parted was rolled back to 0.2.3-7 with the patch file fix-head-size-assertion.patch from Ubuntu; Linux kernel 2.6.39-3 is used; xz compression instead of gzip method was used when making Squashfs and initrd, therefore the GParted Live ISO image and ZIP file are smaller by about 24 MB.

GParted LiveCD 0.13.0-0

The most significant enhancement is with GParted 0.13.0, which now shows when there is a difference between the file system size and the partition size. Thanks to work by Mike Fleetwood this resolves bug #499202 that has been open since 2007. With this new feature, users can learn if there is unallocated space within a partition that can then be put to good use. Another important application change is a fix for bug #678831 which resolves a problem with overlapping partitions when resizing an extended partition. Iskoristih Gparted da izmenim veličinu primarne particije Windows 8.1 OS-a u VM-u, odradilo je posao u sekundi, pokretanje sa diska je takođe "user friendly" itd.
Možda postoji nešto bolje ali ovo je meni odradilo posao jednostavno i efikasno.
