Brazilian airliner crashes after collision with small plane
A Brazilian passenger plane has been located on a farm near a remote town in the Amazon after reportedly colliding with an executive jet.
There was no immediate word whether there were survivors among the 155 passengers.
Infraero, the country's transportation authority, said Gol Airline flight 1907 damaged the wing of the smaller aircraft, which managed to land safely.
The commercial flight left the Amazon city of Manaus on Friday afternoon.
The collision was believed to have occurred near Serra do Cachimbo, a city in Para state about 1,000 kilometres southeast of Manaus.
The Boeing 737 disappeared from radar after the collision, leading to a search for its whereabouts.
The plane had been scheduled to make a stop in Brasilia before reaching Rio de Janeiro.
The Embraer Legacy 600 executive jet, which can carry up to 16 passengers, landed at a base in southern Para.
It was the first major accident for Gol, a low-cost airline that has been operating since 2001. Since that time, it has achieved tremendous growth and has been hailed by industry experts as one of the top discount airlines in the world.
